EXTENDED ABSTRACTS:

The deadline for submission of abstract or extended abstracts (see guidelines in the 2nd Circular) is now re-scheduled for July 30. The electronic version should be sent to: igcp450@cpgg.ufba.br.

FINNANCIAL SUPPORT FROM UNESCO/IUGS:

IGCP 450 has been provided with limited funding by UNESCO/IUGS and thus we may be able to partially support those who need some assistance to come to Belo Horizonte. Those intending to apply for support should have an extended abstract accepted by the Organizing Committee with their name as the principal author. Applicants soliciting support should send a letter to Dr. S.S.Iyer (iyer@ucalgary.ca), with a copy to Dr. A.Misi (misi@ufba.br), indicating their present status (student, university staff, professional), type of assistance (travel, registration, accommodation etc.) and the amount needed. Priority will be given to graduate students and university staff.

SCHEDULE:

A detailed schedule will be mailed to the participants by early August. See below for some highlights:

Sept 25 and 26: Short Courses at Instituto de Geociências of the University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte. There are still places available. See 2nd Circular for detailed information.

Sept. 27 and 28: Technical sessions at Expominas Convention Center, Belo Horizonte: keynote speeches, poster and oral presentations on general themes of the Neoproterozoic sequences and base metal deposits of Western Gondwana. See below for the programmed presentations.

Sept. 29 to Oct. 3: Field trip. See details in the 2nd Circular. There are still places available. Lodging at Paractu village (in a comfortable hotel and convention center) will be totally supported by "Companhia Mineira de Metais (CMM)", the mine company operating the mines of Vazante and Morro Agudo.

Oct. 1 and 2: Second round of the technical session and administrative meeting, at Paracatu village (during the field trip). Oral and poster presentations on specific themes concerning the Bambuí sequences and the zinc-lead deposits - in the evening.

Oct. 3: Leave for Belo Horizonte and Brasilia, respectively at 500 km (6 hours trip) and 230 km (3 hours) from Paracatu.
